Alarko’s Sustainability Leaders Came Together at the “Joint Impact Day”

Positioning sustainability as a strategic transformation area that brings together economic, environmental, and social impact on a single ground, Alarko reviewed the 2025 sustainability performance of its Group Companies and their future targets at the “Joint Impact Day.” Held with the participation of senior executives and sustainability leaders from across the Group, the carbon-neutral event addressed targets, actions, and best practices through a holistic approach. During the event, led by Alarko Group CEO Ümit N. Yıldız, awards were presented to Group companies that stood out with high-impact, innovative, and scalable sustainability projects.

Since its establishment, Alarko Holding has built all its activities on a value creation approach in harmony with nature. The second edition of the Joint Impact Day, where sustainability actions and future targets of Group companies were thoroughly evaluated, was held at the Holding Conference Hall.

The Joint Impact Day, which contributes to strengthening a culture of mutual learning among companies, increasing the visibility of best practices, and deepening a collective value creation approach in sustainability management, was organized as a carbon-neutral event. The gathering, chaired by Alarko Group CEO Ümit N. Yıldız, was attended by senior executives of the Holding, general managers and sustainability leaders of Group companies, as well as Alarko’s sustainability-focused business partners.

Ümit N. Yıldız: “We Must See All Concepts in the Sustainability Literature as Business Opportunities”

The opening speech of the Joint Impact Day was delivered by Alarko Group CEO Ümit N. Yıldız. Emphasizing that climate risks have become a reality affecting not only the environment but also business outcomes directly, Yıldız stated: stated, “Where there are risks, there are always opportunities. With this perspective, we place sustainability at the core of our business models, as well as our growth plans and investments.”

Highlighting that increasing environmental and social regulations, together with evolving consumer expectations, are creating new markets, Yıldız underlined that clean energy, green technologies, and impact investments will gain even greater importance in the coming period. “Energy efficiency, biodiversity, access to safe and healthy food, impact-driven social projects, circular economy, triple transformation… I believe that all these concepts in sustainability literature should be seen not merely as obligations, but as business opportunities for Alarko,” he added.

“As We Transform, We Must Also Transform Our Business Partners, Suppliers and Customers”

Stating that the transition to green energy and circular resource use holds great potential for reducing carbon emissions, Yıldız emphasized the importance of ecosystem leadership by saying: “As we transform ourselves, we must also transform our business partners, suppliers, and customers.”

Reminding that Alarko is listed in the Borsa Istanbul Sustainability Index and is among the top three companies with the highest ESG scores within this scope, Yıldız reiterated the company’s goals of increasing green investments, reducing its carbon footprint, and strengthening social impact.

Joint Impact in Sustainability

Alarko Holding approaches sustainability as a holistic transformation area encompassing field practices, measurement, reporting, continuous improvement, and governance mechanisms across all areas of operation. With shared targets and a common governance approach, these efforts are structured into a systematic and traceable model of collective impact. In this context, the Holding supports its sustainability transformation with a strong reporting and governance infrastructure. Its low-carbon sustainability report prepared under the motto “Just Sustainability,” along with the mandatory TSRS report, embodies its commitment to transparency and accountability. The recently updated sustainability governance structure further strengthens this strategic transformation at the institutional level.

The sustainability transformation journey is also supported by internal programs. Through the Positive Impact Green Collar Training Program and internal awareness initiatives, technical capacity within the organization is enhanced, while global trend analyses and group-wide risk/opportunity workshops contribute to future preparedness. Sustainability targets, centrally monitored, impact the corporate performance scores of all group companies by 5–10%.

Collaborations with national and international initiatives such as the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), SKD Türkiye, and the Business Against Domestic Violence (BADV) Network translate into tangible environmental and social impact outcomes.

Alarko continues its carbon-neutral campus practices at its Ortaköy headquarters and annually offsets the carbon footprint of the Joint Impact Day.

An Integrated Sustainability Approach in Agriculture

Alarko Agriculture addresses sustainability across production, governance, and social impact dimensions.

Awarded in the “Impact-Oriented Technological Transformation” category at the Joint Impact Day, Alarko Agriculture utilizes AI-supported remote monitoring and management systems in its modern greenhouses. With the rooftop solar power plant commissioned at its micro-granule factory, 20% of the Group’s energy consumption is supplied by solar energy. Water and fertilizer recovery systems implemented in 80% of greenhouses provide up to 30% savings.

The Group also stands out with its commitment to gender equality through its WEPs signatory status, high female employment rates, and field training programs in sustainable agriculture under the Alarko Agriculture Academy.

Holistic Sustainability Performance in Industry

Alarko Carrier, awarded in the “Impact-Driven Sustainability Governance” category, operates with an end-to-end traceable system supported by board-level ownership and cross-functional working groups. Targets are regularly monitored, and performance indicators are directly integrated into decision-making processes. As of 2025, 100% of the electricity consumption of its Eskişehir plant is supplied by on-site solar energy production, with 80% of the generated electricity fed into the grid. The company enhances operational efficiency through digitalization, automation, electric forklift usage, waterless landscaping, and paper-saving practices, while also contributing to improved indoor air quality in schools across Anatolia through its “The Air of Schools is Changing” project.

Direct Contribution to the Clean Energy Transition of the Business World

Altek Alarko, which received the “Impact-Driven Climate-Friendly Energy Solutions” award for its practices in renewable energy power plants and its energy storage investment plans, contributes to reducing the Group’s carbon footprint by supporting green energy use at the Alarko Holding headquarters campus, Hillside Fethiye Beach Club, and Alarko Contracting management office through the redemption of I-REC certificates.

Operating in Türkiye’s largest electricity distribution region, MEDAŞ continues its investments without interruption to minimize technical and non-technical losses. 38.5% of the electricity distributed by MEDAŞ is sourced from renewable energy. Recognized with the “Impact-Driven Circular Resource Use” award at the Joint Impact Day, the company ensures waste control by reintegrating faulty equipment into the grid through maintenance and repair processes. MEDAŞ has implemented an LED transformation in its street lighting network and aims to increase the share of electric vehicles in its fleet. In 2025, the company carried out an additional 1,000 tree planting initiative and supports biodiversity through the insulation of its network infrastructure. It also assumes responsibility for raising awareness among agricultural irrigation users in its region, promoting the transition to drip irrigation, night-time irrigation practices, and regular maintenance. Through its Energy Technologies Acceleration Program, MEDAŞ provides financial support to start-ups, while also increasing its social impact through  MEDAŞ Art Gallery, which hosts exhibitions by local artists. By procuring I-REC certificates for numerous facilities, including service buildings and headquarters, the company certifies its green electricity consumption and stands out with high customer satisfaction rates.

MEPAŞ, which provides retail electricity services in the same region, expands the use of green energy not only for its own operations but also for its customers by supplying I-REC certificates. Through its Digital Invoice Project, the company significantly reduces paper consumption and was awarded the “Impact-Driven Digital Services” award for this initiative. With its “Save Your Energy for the Future” project, MEPAŞ raises energy efficiency awareness among thousands of students. In the upcoming period, the company plans to further strengthen its commitment to gender equality and increase its actions in afforestation, water efficiency, and resource efficiency.

A Sustainability and Social Impact-Oriented Model in Tourism

Hillside Beach Club, under Alarko Tourism Group, implements high-standard sustainability practices supported by 17 certifications, 14 of which are voluntary. Its carbon footprint has been verified in line with ISO 14064 since 2022. The facility also operates under ISO 46001 Water Efficiency Management System, ensuring continuous monitoring and improvement.

At the heart of the Group’s social responsibility approach lies regional development. Collaborations with vocational schools support qualified employment in tourism, while a 68% local supplier rate strengthens the local economy. Academic partnerships also contribute to the protection of terrestrial and marine biodiversity.

Green Transformation in Contracting

Alarko Contracting Group, awarded in the “Impact-Driven Sustainability Awareness Projects” category, avoids using heavy machinery older than seven years on its construction sites, achieving 20–30% energy efficiency gains. Through waste management and digitalization projects, it enhances resource efficiency. The company supports green energy use via I-REC certificates at its headquarters, balances its carbon footprint, and strengthens its inclusive corporate culture through the “Sustainable Balance” training program. As a WEPs signatory, it collaborates with NGOs to support disadvantaged groups and aims to expand its green construction approach by encouraging subcontractors to improve their sustainability performance.
