Alarko Holding Secures a Spot in the BİST Sustainability 25 Index

Alarko Holding has been included in the Borsa Istanbul (BIST) Sustainability Index in recognition of the decisive steps it has taken in environmental, social, and governance (ESG), in line with its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The Holding also succeeded in ranking among the top 25 highest-performing companies in the index.

Alarko Group of Companies has marked yet another strategic milestone in its pursuit of sustainable transformation and responsible investment. Alarko Holding, recognized for its pioneering efforts toward the 2050 net-zero emission target and its holistic focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, was included in the Borsa Istanbul (BIST) Sustainability Index and ranked among the top 25 companies. 

Based on the evaluation of its latest sustainability report, the Holding ranked 4th among 72 global and local companies, earning a score of 82. The company’s ESG rating improved to A (82/100), driven by robust investments and effective sustainability strategies. This positive trajectory was supported by efficient resource management, strategic investments in sustainable innovation, human resources policies centered on employees, and social responsibility initiatives designed to generate societal value. 

Companies listed on Borsa Istanbul (BIST) undergo a thorough evaluation by the London Stock Exchange Group, assessing their sustainability performance. Based on these analyses, companies excelling in ESG criteria become eligible for inclusion in the BIST Sustainability Index. 

Alarko, together with its Group companies, continues to expand its collective positive impact

Since entering the sustainable agriculture sector in 2023, Alarko Holding has been steadily advancing its investments in greenhouse cultivation, seeds, fertilizers, and food, aiming to build a 360-degree presence in the field. With its commitment to innovative technologies and sustainable production models, Alarko Agriculture Group aspires to rank among the world’s top companies in modern greenhouse farming by 2028. Leveraging technological innovations in greenhouse farming, Alarko achieves a 72% reduction in water use compared to traditional agriculture and implements an eco-conscious production model by reintroducing geothermal water used for heating back into the natural cycle through the re-injection method. Zero pesticide products produced with smart agricultural practices are both sold in the domestic market and exported to foreign markets.

Alarko’s hybrid micro granule fertilizer plant in Çankırı — the first of its kind in Türkiye and the largest in Europe — stands as a testament to the company’s sustainability commitment. Setting a new industry benchmark with 65% less energy and 70% less water consumption, the facility meets 35% of its energy needs through a 1,200 kWp-capacity solar power system.

Alarko Energy Group directs all its new investments in clean energy towards facilitating the transition to a low-carbon economy. Accordingly, the Group aims to expand its renewable energy capacity nearly 3.5-fold over the next five years, increasing its current installed capacity from 140 MW to 640 MW.
 
It aims to generate 500,000 kWh of electricity annually with the solar energy system installed on the roof of Alarko Carrier Eskişehir Factory. Alarko Carrier, which actively pursues its sustainability-focused product development strategy, reinforced its position in renewable energy solutions by adding Alarko-branded photovoltaic panels to its product portfolio in the last quarter of 2023.

Focusing on living in harmony with nature, Hillside Beach Club not only offers its guests a unique holiday experience but also contributes to the transformation of the industry through its exemplary sustainable tourism practices. The resort, recognized as the best in Europe in the Haute Grandeur 'Best Eco-Friendly Resort' category for its advanced sustainability practices, further demonstrates its commitment to this field with the 'Travelife Gold' certification, awarded for its efficient use of water resources. Guided by the zero-waste principle, Hillside is committed to long-term projects that support local suppliers and preserve the natural ecosystem in which it operates. 

Alarko celebrates its 70th anniversary with sustainability projects

In 2024, while celebrating its 70th anniversary, Alarko Holding embarked on a series of innovative projects in the fields of sustainability and social development.

Having joined the board of directors of BCSD Turkey (Business Council for Sustainable Development) last year, Alarko Holding has integrated its multi-dimensional sustainability approach—one that adds value to people, the economy, the planet, and the future—into its communication strategy. Alarko, the first holding in Turkey to publish a Responsible Communication Policy, highlighted the transformative power of multi-company organizations through this initiative and took a firm stance against the risk of 'greenwashing.

Taking steps to offset both direct and indirect carbon emissions from its headquarters in Ortaköy, one of Istanbul's landmarks, Alarko made its headquarters carbon neutral by purchasing an International Green Energy (I-REC) Certificate and wind energy-based Gold Carbon Credits." 

As a signatory of the United Nations Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) and supporting this vision with concrete policies, Alarko provided extensive training to 1,700 women entrepreneur candidates within the scope of the ‘Pioneers of Entrepreneurship' project, now in its third year, and awarded grant support to 12 women entrepreneurs with high employment potential. 

In cooperation with Make-A-Wish Turkey, the Holding, aiming to bring hope to children battling life-threatening illnesses, set out to fulfill the wishes of 70 children in celebration of its 70th anniversary.
