Alarko Holding Continues to Offset the Carbon Footprint of its Ortaköy Headquarters Campus

Alarko Holding continues to offset the direct and indirect carbon footprint of its headquarters campus located in Ortaköy—one of Istanbul’s iconic districts—through the purchase of International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC) and wind-based Gold Carbon Credits. Marking 71 years of contribution to the national economy, Alarko approaches its 2050 Net Zero target as a strategic transformation opportunity. While expanding into new sectors through responsible investments, the Group carries out multidimensional sustainability projects across its existing fields of operation.

Viewing sustainability not merely as a reporting obligation but as a responsible business and investment model, Alarko Holding continues to take decisive steps toward the transition to a low-carbon economy. Prioritizing energy and resource efficiency as well as renewable energy use across all its facilities, Alarko offsets the carbon footprint of its Ortaköy headquarters campus every year through renewable-energy-based Gold Carbon and Green Energy (I-REC) certificates.

While the Holding’s Ortaköy Headquarters Campus maintains its “Carbon Neutral Building” status, practices that promote effective carbon management are being expanded across all Group companies.

As Alarko Energy Group plans to increase its installed renewable energy capacity, it also encourages the use of green energy both within the Group’s operations and across the business ecosystem through I-REC certificates. Having decided to invest in energy storage technologies and battery production to ensure energy continuity, Alarko Energy Group continues to support access to clean energy through its distribution activities.

Building a comprehensive agricultural ecosystem ranging from geothermal greenhouse cultivation and niche fertilizer production to seed breeding and dried food processing, Alarko Agriculture Group reintegrates geothermal energy, water, and plant-based waste into the economy through a circular resource management approach. Residue-free products grown using biological control methods are exported to 33 countries. At Palmira Agro—Europe’s largest next-generation micro-granular fertilizer production facility—environmentally friendly production techniques are implemented, with more than 55% of energy needs met through solar-based renewable energy.

Alarko Carrier meets 100% of the electricity used in its production processes from solar energy and feeds 46% of this production back into the grid, thereby contributing to the renewable energy supply.
Addressing environmental responsibility together with social benefit under the Hillside brand, Alarko Tourism Group reduces resource consumption in its operations and systematically lowers its carbon footprint. While documenting terrestrial and marine ecosystems in collaboration with universities, it also supports local producers and local employment. The Bodrum Hillside project, currently under construction within the Tourism Group, is targeted to open in 2026 with a green building concept.

In aviation, Alarko has introduced a proprietary model that converts wide-body aircraft that have completed their economic life as passenger planes into cargo aircraft without cutting the fuselage. As of 2026, the company aims to scale this activity into a sustainable business structure.

Through the “Positive Impact – Green Collar Program” implemented across Group companies, sustainability competencies are disseminated throughout the organization. Synergy creation is supported across various platforms with a “Collective Impact” perspective to ensure the adoption of best practices in corporate governance, sustainability, digitalization, and human resources across the Group.

While overarching policies and targets are customized according to each company’s sectoral context and business model, sustainability-focused metrics contribute between 5% and 10% to corporate performance scorecards across the Group. As a result of these determined efforts, Alarko Holding continues to be included in the Borsa Istanbul (BIST) Sustainability Index and to expand its achievements, certifications, and awards in this field.

Low-Carbon Sustainability Reporting

Beyond being an international portfolio company, Alarko Group aims for positive-impact-oriented financial growth as a responsible investor that places people and nature at its core.

Marking 71 years in the national economy, Alarko approaches its 2050 Net Zero target as a strategic transformation opportunity. While growing through responsible investments in new sectors, the Group carries out multidimensional sustainability projects within its existing business lines.

Following the publication of its first TSRS-compliant Sustainability Report last year, Alarko Holding also shared its GRI-compliant Sustainability Report—emphasizing that “growing by reducing” is possible—in a low-carbon format in line with its Responsible Communication Policy. Published under the theme “Only Sustainability,” the report presents the Group’s sustainability performance, transformations across environmental, social, and governance areas, best practices within its sectors, sustainability priorities, and actions aligned with emerging trends. Visual elements such as photographs, colors, and graphic components were deliberately excluded to minimize carbon emissions generated by search engines, graphic software, artificial intelligence applications, and display monitors. The same design approach was applied to the report’s promotional film released on social media, which was published “without music and sound” to further reduce energy consumption. Receiving its first award at the Istanbul Marketing Awards, the report was met with strong interest from Alarko’s internal and external stakeholders.
